Fonia Session 62 – DJ Resoul

DJ Resoul started to get involved with hip hop at a young age in the mid-80s. He started as a rapper and co-founder of the GDR formation Downtown Lyrics, who were active in the East between 1987-1991 and had performances with Stereo MCs, London Posse as well as Advanced Chemistry to their credit. In the following years René expanded his repertoire with funk, soul, jazz as well as the then new influences of acid jazz and trip hop. In 1996 he started his own event series in Berlin as a DJ, worked as a resident at MDR Sputnik as well as for Jazzanova at the monthly Kaleidoscope evening at Cafe Moskau. With Alex Barck he also compiled the series “Secret Love” for Sonar Kollektiv. Currently he can be found daily as a vinyl dealer at Soultrade Recordstore in Berlin.
